Mpls/St. Paul Business Journal Largest Franchisors

Named to Business Journal’s Largest Franchisors in Twin Cities List

Moms on the Run was once again named to Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal’s list of largest Twin Cities-based franchising companies, a designation we’ve received since 2019.

We asked Karissa Johnson, Founder and CEO of Moms on the Run, how Moms on the Run came to be a franchisor and what’s ahead for the company.

Q: Moms on the Run has again been named to the Minneapolis Saint Paul Business Journal’s list of largest Twin Cities-based franchising companies. What was your reaction?

A: When we first received this award in 2019, I was shocked. I never had any intention to build a big company – I really just followed the demand from Twin Cities women who wanted to see this program in their city. Franchising made sense – I just knew the company had a bigger opportunity to grow through dedicated local business owners.

Q: What do you like best about franchising?
A: Being able to make a difference in so many more women’s lives! It’s a true blessing to partner with women entrepreneurs who share the same passion to make a difference in their community.

Q: As a franchisor, what challenges do you face?
A: Franchising requires a ton of administrative work and legal compliance, none of which are reduced just because our business opportunity is “part time.” So, from a financial perspective, my biggest challenge is staffing a company with a budget based on part-time revenues. This will continue to be a unique challenge until the company is much larger.

Q: What’s next for Moms on the Run?
A: We’re investing in staff, preparing for the next phase of growth. We’re excited to get our brand into many more communities that need fitness, fun and friendship nationwide!
