“I joined in 2013 as a way to get out of the house and lose some baby weight after having four kids in five years. Wow, did I get so much more! Friendship, joy, laughter, strength and confidence! In 2014, I found out I was pregnant with our fifth child. I was a bit nervous to lose what I had gained in running. Instead my pregnancy was a breeze, delivery went great and my recovery was wonderful.
In the 6 months since my daughter was born, I’ve upped my miles more than I ever expected and lost all of the baby weight (and then some)! Beyond that I’ve found a passion I never dreamed of having. With each step my mind stretched a little further and I began to imagine the possibilities. And then to actually achieve them. “I joined Moms on the Run about 2 years after my son was born. I knew my issue was accountability – so I figured if I paid for something it would force me to attend. My first night I was SO nervous. As an introvert, trying a new group activity was so outside my comfort zone. However, this group was so welcoming and kind to a new face that it felt ok. So I kept coming back.
Two amazing things happened. First, I found my community. These women are so supportive, uplifting, gracious and FUN! These women make me a better mother and friend. I didn’t even know this was missing until they unceremoniously filled in the gaps. The second amazing thing was that I have annihilated my previous running goals (18 months and a pregnancy/baby later). The things I was nervous about with Moms on the Run – the cost and the committed schedule – have now become defaults in our budget and calendar.
The women I have met and built friendships with support me on a daily basis, whether they know it or not. And while I’ve set myself even loftier running goals that I am confident I can achieve, that’s not what MOTR is about to me anymore. I’ve found my people!”
