First Coast Living Transcript

Well, today we have Moms on the Run to help moms get up and get moving. So, let’s welcome owner and head coaches. This is Amy Magdalein and Casey Padgett. Thank you so much for joining me today.

Thank you.

I’ve heard about Moms on the Run, but I didn’t really know much about it. So, first is first. What exactly is Moms on the run?

So, Moms on the Run is a structured fitness program. We have classes that include cardio through running or walking. We have a great walking group now.

Yeah, I was telling her I’m not much of a runner, but I can walk.

Yeah, a lot of our ladies are just walking now and that’s totally fine. It’s all about moving forward. So, we have cardio. We have strength. We have mobility. We, you know, help women get up off the ground and off our chairs.

Functional movement.

Functional. Just yeah getting moving and getting to be where you can be independent.

Right.

And strength training and getting stronger is so important, especially as we age and get older, we want to be able to pick up our kids and our grandkids and be in nurseries without twisting our back and throwing our back out. So, you know, we help it in all those different areas.

So, where exactly do y’all meet?

So, we have three different locations. We have Mandarin. We have St. John’s and a new location starting tonight is in Nocatee.

Oh, well, congratulations on your new location. So, how do people get the information of where you’re meeting? Is it going to be the same place every time?

Yeah, so our classes are the same classes each week. So, we have five we meet five times each week at each location. Fifteen different classes – and our members know when our classes are so. We meet Tuesday and Thursday mornings and then we meet on Sundays for our endurance run or walk. So, our class times are all over our website. Just go there and see your location and where we meet.

I got you. Now, we mentioned, you know, it’s called Moms on the Run, but is this open to all women?

Absolutely.

Okay, you don’t have to be a mom.

You don’t have to be a mom and – you don’t – there’s no age limit. So, we have anywhere from late 20s up to 67. Actually our oldest is 71.

Amazing,

Actually, my mom is 72 now.

So, we have all ages so you can come and join us at any age. I love that. And, then what do you offer that other fitness clubs might not offer?

You know, when you go into a gym, it can be a little bit intimidating.

Yes, definitely.

You don’t really know what to do. Maybe you go in and you try a couple things or you go into a class and then you just kind of leave. You walk out, and I mean and that’s great. Don’t get me wrong. I mean – working out – or whatever you decide to do.

Right.

But our group is more of a community, you know. Our coaches are looking for you. If you’re not there, we’re going to call you or be like, where are you?

Accountability, right?

Absolutely, accountability. Motivation. We have things that we’re working towards – for you know – together.

Goals.

Yeah, absolutely goals. So, you know River Run is a big one. The Donna marathon is a big one that we have a lot of our ladies do. Gate River Run. A lot of our members are sole mates for Girls on the Run. So that’s another kind of –  just kind of – takes it outside of just running and gives you another reason to do it. So, um yeah, we it’s more about community that it is just coming to a class.

Right? What do you love about it?

So, I love it. I started four years ago. I had given up running for about ten years and at 63, I needed something else and a good friend of mine invited me. I’ve been there ever since. Eventually became a coach. And, what I love about it is that it is family, friendship and mentoring of each other. You know, it’s accountability.

Right.

So, I want to be there for my seven grandkids.

Yeah.

My three kids and my husband for a long time and it helps me do that. And, it helps me with… My friends help me do that.

And it’s like a sisterhood, I’m sure.

Yes, right.

Yeah.

You’re all together in this together and making sure you’re all good. You know, like, sometimes that’s just an outlet that you need even as a social outlet while you’re getting your workout on. Right? We have some pictures here.

Doesn’t matter what your pace is and that’s another thing. I mean, we have a motto. It’s ‘no woman left behind.’ It doesn’t matter if you’re fast or slow or walking. We always make sure that we are with somebody else which is so important these days. We know that it’s not all that safe to be out there by ourselves sometimes.

Oh, yes. Good. I love that.

Already a runner come and run with us. If you’ve never been a runner or if you’re just a walker just come out. Meet new friends and just get moving with us.
