Training Tip with Carrie: Race Tactics Part 1 – Beginning of the Race

As race season gears up, Moms on the Run National Fitness Director, Olympian Carrie Tollefson, offers tips regarding race tactics for the beginning, middle and end of a race. Today’s video focuses on your game plan at the beginning of a race. Listen in and save this for the next time you’re headed for a finish line.

“Hi everybody, I’m Olympian Carrie Tollefson and also your National Fitness Director at Moms on the Run. And today’s Tuesday Training Tip, I wanna talk to you about what you need to do in the beginning of a race. Well, even before that race, I want you to know your race plan.

But in the very beginning stages of a 5K, a 10K, a half a marathon, whatever you’re running, I want you to be thinking about your race plan. When that gun goes off, I want you to consciously be saying, “Okay, this is what I’m gonna do for the first K or the first mile or for the first half.” So, I want you to just think about what’s going on in the race and what you need to be doing and what is that race plan.

Think as much as you possibly can about staying in the zone and in your race plan in the very early stages of the race.”
