At Minneapolis-Nokomis Moms on the Run, we empower women (not just moms) through fitness, friendship and fun. Whether you want to walk, start running, improve endurance, increase speed or train for a race, we’re here to support you. We offer coached

 workout classes and group runs, as well as half and full marathon training plans to help you reach your goals.

JOIN MINNEAPOLIS-NOKOMIS FOR YEAR ROUND PROGRAMS!

Our indoor Strength and Cardio classes offer workout options to help you stay strong through the winter and build a foundation for your next training cycle. The Polar Run Club will keep you moving as the temps dip. It is only cold if you’re standing still so join us for movement this winter!

Our Signature season is entirely outside and starts at the end of April. We offer multiple coached training plans written by Olympian Carrie Tollefson. Start from walking and learn to run (or return to run) a 5k by the end of the season. Or, come in as an established runner who wants to build endurance or improve speed – or both! Whatever your goals, we will help you reach them with fitness. fun, and friendship!

During Fall we continue with outdoor interval and strength classes, while starting to transition to more strength. Our Minneapolis-Nokomis community thrives year round!

We love Walking too!

Join CoHiNo Moms on the Run in their walking program. This is a fitness program that will include timed intervals of a hard walk and recovery targeted at increasing fitness solely through walking. This program will be offered on Mondays and Saturdays alongside our other Intervals & Learn/Return to Run programs. Like all CoHiNo Moms on the Run Programming, you can opt into any workout during each class.

6:00 p.m. at Wabun Park and Picnic

Join with the Highland location for coached intervals and strength, as well as our coached walking program.  Bring hydration, mat, and hand weights (5 to 20 pounds).

6:00 a.m. at Nokomis Community Center Overflow Lot

Coached endurance run of 40 min. Meet at Nokomis Community Center Overflow Lot

6:00 p.m. at Keewaydin Park

Coached intervals and strength class. Bring hydration, mat, and hand weights (5 to 20 pounds).

Noon at the Scenic Overlook (615-645 Mississippi River Blvd S) in St. Paul

Fitness Director, Olympian and Coach Carrie

Carrie’s running career began in high school where she was a 13-time state champion. She competed at Villanova University, where she was a 5-time NCAA Champion and the 1998 NCAA Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.

In her post collegiate career, she won three national championships and earned the #1 spot in the country in 2004 after winning the 1500-meter at the U.S. Olympic Trials and going on to represent the U.S. in the Olympic Games in Athens.

Carrie is currently the National MOTR Fitness Director, an ESPN2 analyst and a commentator for national events. She lives and trains here in Minnesota with her husband Charlie and their three children.

Minneapolis-Nokomis Owner & Coach, Anshan

Anshan joined Moms on the Run in 2016, a few months after the birth of her second child. She quickly realized that having small children in a new city required being surrounded by women who could help her figure out how to get her own needs met without “mom guilt” and be an example for her children for how to stay active and the importance of community. While never someone who thought running in a group was fun (she’s a true introvert!), now looks forward to and enjoys running with other people.

You’ll often hear her say that if you don’t like running with other people because it’s hard to talk, that means you are running too fast! She has run many distances but her favorites tend to be those that challenge her mental and physical stamina, like the Loony Challenge.

Anshan is a RRCA Certified Coach and an ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor. She enjoys running along the Mississippi River, spending time with family, lifting weights to stay strong, gardening, and taking on home-improvement projects with her husband.

Minneapolis-Nokomis Owner & Coach, Emma

Emma was an occasional runner in college, and joined MOTR after a disappointing 10k race. She was excited to improve her running, do some “real” workouts, and be accountable to regular exercise.
As an introvert, she was stepping out of her comfort zone. But what she discovered was a welcoming group of women, so uplifting, gracious and fun! She had no idea she would be joining a strong, driven community who would push, encourage and support her so unconditionally in running and life.
She was nervous about the commitment and cost, but says those quickly became defaults in her budget and calendar. Now on the coaching team, she is honored to help women achieve goals they never knew were possible. Emma is a RRCA Certified Coach.
When she is not running, Emma works full time as a Software Project Manager, and enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 children. If there is time after all of that, she likes to read, travel and attempt to bake and sew.

Minneapolis-Nokomis Owner & Coach, Laura

Laura passionately believes that anyone can become a runner, regardless of fitness level, age, speed or distance. After very limited experience running on her own, she joined Moms on the Run in 2015 and found an amazing community of support and encouragement. She ran her first 10k in 2017 and it has become her favorite distance. Laura is a RRCA Certified Coach and an ACE Certified Personal Trainer.

In addition to running, Laura enjoys reading, visiting local restaurants, puzzles, movies, and spending time with her teenage son and their charismatic cat, Albert.

Coach Meg

Meg’s journey into the world of running began in 2007 when she crossed the finish line of her first 5K race. However, it wasn’t until 2016 when she truly embraced the sport, joining MOTR-Como. This running community became her foundation, teaching her the joys of running alongside others.

Meg has raced in 5K, 10K, 10-mile, and half marathon races, each one marking a new level of accomplishment and dedication. Among her races, the Twin Cities 10-mile holds a special place in her heart, representing not only a beautiful course but also the best vibe and cheer squad.

Meg is a certified Group Fitness Instructor through ACE, bringing her expertise and enthusiasm for running and fitness to others. Her love for movement extends to vinyasa yoga, which she has practiced for over 17 years, finding balance and mindfulness on and off the trails.

Coach Alicia

Alicia joined Moms on the Run in 2018, shortly after her second child turned two. The instant community and accountability was transformational in her journey back to wellness. She is honored to be a part of and support this amazing community of women. Alicia is is a RRCA Certified Coach and an ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor.

She lives in St. Paul with her husband and their two children. Alicia can often be found baking, hiking, running, gardening, or playing outside with her kids.

Coach Ashley

Ashley’s vocation in life is to help others find the things that make them feel whole and valued. She has found this through running, yoga, storytelling, and gardening and is delighted to join the coaching team as an assistant coach.

Ashley has been a member since 2019 and loves this community of amazing women. She lives in South Minneapolis with her husband, Aaron; silly dog Gracie; and wicked-sweet cat, Elphaba.

Coach Ellen

Ellen did a little bit of running in her early 20s but got away from it for quite a few years. In 2016, her daughter was training for a half marathon and introduced her to a ‘Couch to 5K’ app. She successfully  ran her first 5K for her 50th birthday.

Fast forward to 2019, newly living in the Twin City Metro, she saw an ad for Moms on the Run. Thinking it would be a good way to meet people and stay active, she checked it out (but thought she would HATE running with other people). She was wrong, however, and loved Moms on the Run and has been an active participant since.

Now, she hates running alone and took the leap to assistant coach. She loves that there is always someone who runs your pace, whether you are a Boston Marathon runner or prefer to run intervals. She has completed the TC 10 mile and a half marathon.

When not running, Ellen is a full time Application Developer, enjoys woodworking, game night and puttering around the house and yard. She is a mom to two grown children, a future son-in-law, two cats and has one grandDOG!

Coach Julie

I’m Julie Morales. I live in St. Paul by Lake Phalen with my husband and 2 kids. In 2016, I joined Moms on the Run after my 2nd baby to find a new way to exercise and stay motivated. At that time, I would not have dreamed that just 8 years later I’d join the team as an assistant coach!

Running was something I’d started and stopped a number of times over the years and would honestly say I hated. Today, I wouldn’t say I love running, but I definitely don’t hate it because I’ve met some of the best women and learned so much about myself along the way.

I started in the Learn to Run program and with encouragement and just the right amount of pushing I started to run longer distances. I soon fell in love with the Twin Cities 10 Mile and have run it three official times (plus one unofficial)!

The Twin Cities has so many beautiful places to run! Besides running, I enjoy reading, being in the kitchen, hanging out with my family playing games and camping.

Coach Marin

Marin joined Moms on the Run in 2023 when she was looking for a chance to rediscover a piece of herself outside of motherhood. While she only started running as an adult and has not always been the best at a consistent practice, MOTR checks all the boxes for providing motivation and community when she needed it most. 

She is delighted to come back for her third season as an assistant coach. She truly believes anyone can run any distance they set their mind to and no goal is too small. Whether it was her first 5K or sixth marathon, she loves the mental toughness of every person who gets out there.

Marin lives in South Minneapolis with her husband (who famously does not run—it’s on the holiday card every year), her daughter (who is developing a love of running!), and their cat (who still runs for treats). 

Coach Libby

Having joined Moms on the Run in 2012, Libby would be a charter member of St. Paul Moms on the Run if charter members were a thing. A former high school mathlete, Libby is an “adult-onset” runner who had never previously run (other than for buses).

Since joining Moms on the Run, she has run her first one mile, 5K, 10K, ten-mile, and half marathon. Libby considers a race a victory if she finishes in the top half of women in her age group—this includes when she won a medal for third place when there were only five women in her age group running the race.

Outside of Moms on the Run, Libby is a member of the board of directors of Twin Cities in Motion as the self-appointed representative of back-of-the-pack runners. She lives by Como Lake with her family, including a teen runner.

Coach Heidi

Hi! My name is Heidi and I am an assistant coach with Minneapolis-Nokomis, St. Paul-Highland Park and St. Paul-Como Moms on the Run.

I started running after college and participated in several races from 5k to marathon. After having my two kiddos (Henry and Lydia), I lost touch with running for a few years. I joined MOTR in 2021, as a way to reconnect with running and meet new people. I’ve been hooked ever since!

My favorite part about being a MOTR coach is building friendships and helping other women athletes become strong and confident in their running!

We will celebrate as one big family with ONE BIG 5K at our new location, Normandale Lake Park in Bloomington. Enjoy mimosas, treats and great swag, as well as fun for the whole family: a Kids "Run with an Olympian," sign making, facepainting, crazy hair and more!

SPRING AND SUMMER: SIGNATURE TRAINING

Registration opens March 2024

Our signature training program lets you attend classes every day of the week. We strongly recommend choosing an interval class at least once a week, which includes a higher level of structure and support. From walkers to runners, Minneapolis-Nokomis women will start at their own level and progress throughout the season.

FALL: STRENGTH + CARDIO BOOT CAMP

Our strength and cardio boot camp offers a variety of workout options to help you meet your goals. We’ll help maximize your fitness by providing run/walk high intensity interval training (HIIT) at your level. Enhance your life by improving strength, endurance, speed and agility.

WINTER: POLAR RUN AND INDOOR TRAINING

Our Minneapolis-Nokomis Polar run offers you a way to maintain the running endurance you built up during the summer and fall, while staying accountable and motivating during the long, cold winter months.

We also host virtual and indoor strength-training classes.

MARATHON AND HALF MARATHON TRAINING PLANS

Moms on the Run offers training programs and social media groups to current customers who are training for a marathon or half marathon.

Our training plans have been designed by our National Fitness Director, Olympian Carrie Tollefson.
