Running for me has been my life saver, my solitude, my first love, my sanity. Yes there are days I have a love/hate relationship with it, but at the end of the day, it always makes me feel better, gives me confidence and energy, and makes me a better wife and mom. And the best part? I always enjoy my meal after (have I told you I love to eat?) and that to me makes everything worth it!
If you are new to a run/walk program, Moms on the Run wants to help you get started on your journey. Come run or walk with us and we promise you will have a great time!
Tip #1: Start Slow and Easy
It is so easy to be excited and super motivated when starting a new program. For me, I need to be really careful in the first few weeks. I think having a set plan is really the way to go when starting out. Have an outline and stick to it. Sometimes new plans can seem too easy but your body will react to it faster if you can keep it healthy and ready to attack each week.
Tip#2: Let your body catch up
For many of us, we go through life letting our heart lead the way and a lot of times that is the case in starting a new program as well. Our emotions can get the best of us at times so be sure to let your body catch up. Listen to those feet, quads, knees, and make sure you are giving them what they need to keep up with the desire to be great or to do something great. Warm up slowly, stretch, and stay hydrated!
Tip #3: Have Fun
I always enjoy starting a new program. Whether it is a new season, coming back from an injury or baby, being in a rut, whatever the reason is that I am starting over, it can be really fun. You have made the commitment to be a better YOU! Taking time from your family, your job, your “whatever” to start a new routine is tough but so rewarding. If you are one that can do this on your own that is great, but if you are like me, it is best to find a partner or training group to hold you accountable.
