After seeing posts from the Lakeville/Burnsville group, Jamie had ‘join Moms on the Run’ on her to-do list for a while. Last spring, the stars finally aligned and Jamie Schmitt registered for her first season.
One of the best parts of running is showing her 3-year-old daughter, Brooklyn, the joys of getting out and being healthy. Brooklyn often joins her mom and other kids to run now, and is quick to ask, “Are we going running with the ladies?”
While enjoying this sport with her daughter, Jamie has also come to appreciate the comradery of the group and loves the tips and support from Coach Kim, especially when they’re out on hills. Doing it together, pushes Jamie to drive a little harder and lift a little heavier. “It’s inspiring to see every level come together and motivate each other on the group runs and intervals.”
Jamie has also loved the variety of the paved and dirt trails in her area. She’s discovered new parks and places to run. A favorite memory was an accidental mud run. Brooklyn was with her in a stroller and Jamie started with the group, but didn’t realize there was a paved trail and dirt trail option. She had unknowingly chosen the dirt trail, and it started pouring. As she maneuvered the stroller through the mud, her only thought was, “Yep, we’re doing this.” Her other MOTR moms were ready to grab a wheel if it got too deep.
This week, Jamie’s luck was even better when she won the virtuwell Gear Up $100 Amazon gift card. When Jamie’s not running, she’s a pediatric nurse in the NICU at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, and she’d heard of virtuwell through her insurance. Winning was a fun and unexpected surprise. Jamie doesn’t know yet what she’ll get with her prize. Her favorite gear is any pair of Brooks shoes, and she just got a New Balance running belt that she loves because it’s so light and stays in place.
As a sponsor of Moms on the Run, virtuwell is proud to support the health of families that are always on the go. Whether it’s pink eye, a UTI or a mystery rash, virtuwell can send treatment and prescriptions faster than a 5K.
