March inspiring Mom Patty, starting her second year with the Eden Prairie, MN franchise, never gave up.
The working mother of one admits having tried many different fitness programs, even an online “couch to 5K” regimen, before finding her happy place with Moms on the Run.
“Running was what those crazy, ultra-fit people did,” Patty says, “yet something always made me wish I could be one of them.” She resolved that 2015 was the year she would tackle her dream to become a runner. That April, she showed up to a free trial class with Eden Prairie MOTR.
“It was cold, windy and sleeting,” she remembers. “I was the only new person to show up. Yet, from the moment I started walking and then running with my coach, I knew Moms on the Run was the program for me. I went home and immediately signed up for spring!”
At the start of the program, Patty could not run more than two minutes without feeling very fatigued. Since then, she’s put in the work and never looked back.
By July, she ran her first 10K. On Halloween, she logged her first half marathon. Today? She’s training for the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon (yep, the full) in October. And her long-term goal is to compete in an ultra-marathon.
That’s not all that’s on tap for Patty in 2016. She will also serve as a volunteer coach for the Eden Prairie team.
“Moms on the Run was exactly what I needed to realize my goal of becoming a runner, and I’m so thankful for the program,” she says. “This year I’m excited to share my enthusiasm for running and to help other women realize their dreams.”
Patty’s Advice: You don’t have to be an ultra-fit person to run. You don’t have to look like a runner or be fast. You don’t even have to run the entire time. You just have to show up and put one foot in front of the other.
