We often hear of Sunday drives or Sunday family dinners, but Sundays for Cami Stottle and Kayshia Rosenbury — a mother/daughter duo from Missouri — include running together. Cami and Kayshia train together as part of Springfield Moms on the Run. In honor of Mother's Day, they are our Inspiring Members for May!
Kayshia, 33, lives in Springfield, MO and started running with Moms on the Run in 2016. She attempted to train for a 5K several years ago and admits she had no idea what she was doing. She sustained an injury, which hampered any training, and then became pregnant, which halted her training altogether. “I always had it in the back of my mind that I wanted to learn how to run.” After having two kids, she heard about Moms on the Run and thought she’d give it a try. Now, heading into her third year, “running with this group is my medicine,” she explains.
Kayshia’s experience of fun and fitness eventually rubbed off on her mom. Two months ago, Cami joined Springfield Moms on the Run. Cami, 48, lives 50 miles south in Hollister, MO, a small town just outside of Branson. Every Sunday, she makes the trek to see Kayshia; visit her granddaughters, now 4 and 5; and hit the trails with Moms on the Run. While she hasn’t been with the program long, Cami says she already feels like it’s her routine.
“It makes me commit to seeing my grandkids every week and get my run in, which is a win-win,” notes Cami. Cami enjoys training alongside her daughter, and she likes that women in this group are all on different parts of their health journey. “It doesn’t matter what level you’re at, they are going to encourage you and ask you, ‘where do you want to take this’ and help you get there.”
Springfield MOTR's franchise owner, Melanie Roach, reflects on having them in the group. "Kayshia meets every challenge head on. She’s one of the most positive ladies I know and she loves to encourage and cheer on fellow moms. And since we all love Kayshia, we knew we would love her mom! Cami is so inspiring and equally determined. She never uses shortcuts in any of her workouts. She is truly a beast! The best part is that they both always have a smile on their face. I’m so proud they chose us. "
Both mom and daughter agree that Moms on the Run has been welcoming to the two of them and has created a perfect excuse to get together.
“My mom has always led a healthy lifestyle,” Kayshia recalls. “It’s nice to share this with her, and to model fitness with my own two girls. Doing something together that’s really hard is always bonding.”
