![]() We get asked all the time if we have an affiliation with Girls on the Run. While we are not the same organization, we are proud to be friends and support the mission of getting girls excited about health, fitness — and running! To that end, 200 Girls on the Run teams across the Twin Cities, Northfield and Rochester are in need of fantastic adults to make the Spring 2020 season possible. Do you have a sincere interest in leading a healthy life and inspiring the next generation to reach their full potential? Consider volunteering as a coach at Girls on the Run Twin Cities! Enjoy the chance to get outside, laugh, jump, cheer, and most importantly, help girls realize their full potential this fall! Three things to know:
(1) YOU would be a great coach! Coaches do NOT need to be “runners.” GOTR is seeking responsible, enthusiastic adults (of all genders!) with a commitment to preparing girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Volunteer coaches come from all walks of life and currently include: financial analysts, kindergarten teachers, PhD students, stay-at-home parents, physicians, yoga teachers, lawyers, speech pathologists, IT gurus, grandmas, principals, pharmacists, college students, psychologists, medical students, army sergeants, and more! The most important criteria? That they are positive role models and dedicated to Girls on the Run core values of inclusivity, optimism and gratitude. (2) All training and materials are provided. The fun, interactive, age-appropriate lesson plans are ready to go! Even the markers and handouts are provided. Coaches are assigned in groups of 3-5 adults who lead a team of girls together through 10 weeks and 20 lessons. GOTR provides the training, materials, and support, and you provide the enthusiasm and life experience. (3) Select a team with days and times that work for you! Girls on the Run teams meet at schools and community centers all over the Twin Cities and Rochester, from Lakeville to Elk River and from Hayfield to Stillwater. Some meet right after school (say, 3:00 – 4:30), some meet in the evenings (5:30 – 7:00), and some even have weekend practices. You can coach both days each week or just one ... this is a “choose your own adventure” opportunity that works for any schedule! Interested? Submit a Coaching Application right here and get ready for a fantastic volunteer experience unlike any other! Feel free to share this with anyone you know who might be interested! Questions?
