Moms on the Run is great because of the women who are part of our family. In an ongoing series, we'll feature an Ambassador who will share her story with you. Today we feature Anna Carlson, who runs with Roseville (MN) Moms on the Run.
Our youngest daughter Maya has a rare brain condition called lissencephaly, or “smooth brain syndrome.” When she was two years old, she started going to a specialized therapy that helped her learn how her body could teach her brain to do movements rather than the other way around. She worked on a series of very small steps to get to a larger movement and her therapist commented that for Maya, learning one complete movement was like running a marathon. And that’s when I started to run. I thought if Maya could work so very hard on something, I could too, and so my husband joined me in the Couch Potato to 5K plan that we found online.
Today, Moms on the Run National Fitness Director, Olympian Carrie Tollefson, shares ideas for dynamic stretches. Dynamic stretching is an ideal way to warm up before a run or any type of exercise; it increases range of motion and blood flow and helps prepare the muscles for activity. Watch as Carrie leads us through four great stretches you can do before you get your run in!
The Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend, October 4-6, is fast approaching and has something for everyone. Sunday is the big day with the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon and Medtronic TC 10 Mile. And Saturday is filled with events for kids of all ages with the TC 5K, presented by Fredrikson & Byron, TC 10K, and Medtronic TC Family Events.
But before your big race day, check out the Health & Fitness Expo at the Saint Paul RiverCentre on Friday October 4 (11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.) and Saturday October 5 (10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.). At the Health & Fitness Expo, you can buy official 2019 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon gear, visit over 100 exhibitors, listen to speakers at the Seminar Stage (presented by Star Tribune), pick up your race bib, and much more. If you are running the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon or the Medtronic TC 10 Mile on Sunday, you will need to stop by the Expo in order to get your race bib as there is no race day packet pick up available.

We partnered with our platinum sponsor, MedExpress Urgent Care, to create 250 first aid kits that were donated to PROP (People Reaching Out to People) food shelf in Eden Prairie, MN. Moms on the Run members who were at our Celebration Evening on Aug. 23 had the opportunity to put together a first aid kit and write a handwritten note of encouragement. We're grateful for all who participated! The kits were delivered on Sept. 6.
